SACM uses Heartbeat packets to monitor service adaptor status and can send notifications via e-mail when there is a change in status.
The service adaptor sends regular Heartbeat packets to the monitoring server. The monitoring server recognizes the regular arrival of these Heartbeats as Up status and judges the status to be Down if Heartbeats stop arriving. When there is a change in status, a notification is sent to the specified e-mail address.
Monitoring interval
A Heartbeat is sent from the service adaptor once every 5 minutes.
Status change
During DOWN status, the connection status switches from DOWN to UP when a single Heartbeat reaches the server
During UP status, the connection status switches from UP to DOWN when no Heartbeat reaches the server for three consecutive cycles
SACM monitoring is designed to determine “whether or not Heartbeats reach the SACM monitoring server” and is not designed to identify the status of whether or not communication is possible over a specific route. Also, as there is a possibility a DOWN status will be detected in the event of an upstream router or line malfunction, it is important to note that the system does not monitor the status of the actual equipment.
The content of outgoing e-mail can be freely customized by each reseller. The default e-mail text is as follows:
